Theatre Legend Norman Young Joins Alumni Cast in Beckett 16

Get your Samuel Beckett on, enjoy post-show cake & champers, and donate to a worthy cause. Directed by MFA Directing Alumnus Gerald Vanderwoude, Professor Emeritus Norman Young returns with alumni Beverly Bardal, Cam Cronin, Deb Pickman, Joe Procyk, Tom Scholte. All proceeds benefit The Peter Loeffler Memorial Prize.

Norman Young is a legendary figure in the British Columbia entertainment world. A UBC Professor Emeritus, Young is Co-Founder of the BC Entertainment Hall of Fame and a former member of the Canada Council. For many years he was Chair of the Vancouver Civic Theatres Board and for this received the Civic Merit Award from the City of Vancouver. He is a founder of the BC Arts Festival, was Chair of the BC Arts Board and has been a Director of the Vancouver Museum, The Vancouver Playhouse Theatre Company, the Vancouver Archives and the Vancouver Children’s Festival, and is Honorary Vice-President of PAL Vancouver. He was an energetic member of WOOPEA, auctioning off the world’s worst art to raise money for the BC Paraplegic Association. This is Norman’s fifth show with the Theatre Alumni Group, having been cast in The Master Builder (2010), Who’s There? (2012),  Listen…Look here (2013), Beckett 15 (2015).

Beckett 16 honors Peter Loeffler

Peter Loeffler began teaching at UBC in 1972 and and for thirty years taught theatre history to undergraduate and graduate students. His Introduction to Theatre course inspired first-year students to appreciate the power of theatre and its importance. He was a dedicated mentor for countless students from all specialties within the Department of Theatre. Peter passed away on January 18, 2002 after a short battle with cancer. 

Beckett 16 honors Peter Loeffler’s love of avant-guard theatre and all proceeds go to his Memorial Fund.
