UBC THEATRE & FILM PRESENTS Naked Cinema IVON THE SUBJECT
THE DEPARTMENT OF THEATRE & FILM AT UBC PRESENTSNaked Cinema IV: UNSPOKEN
CREATED IN COLLABORATION WITH STUDENTS FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF THEATRE & FILM
Directed & Produced by Professor Tom Scholte
– Where do you hide when the “elephant in the room” starts to charge?
How often do we decide which facts the people close to us “need to know?” How often do we tell ourselves that these omissions and half-truths are for “their own good?” And how often do we ask ourselves who it is we are really protecting? All of these questions are on the table is this year’s penetrating and dramatic Naked Cinema installment centered on three couples; one bringing the unhealed scars and unquenched desires of the past to their impending nuptials, another at a crossroads concerning the dark past of a co-dependent little sister, and a third grappling with the after effects of the miscarriage of an unplanned pregnancy. Intimate performances of deep sincerity make this feature-length drama a powerful study of the fears and frailties inside us all.
Each year, students from the Department of Theatre and Film, spearheaded by award-winning Professor Tom Scholte, come together to create something especially audacious: a new feature film inspired by Lars von Trier's Dogme 95 Manifesto and stripped of all cinematic artifice.
